The Pay What You Can Economy is not a new trend, but it's definitely emerging out of the wood-work.
After the initial un-comfortableness that many of us westerns feel, I think you will see the value in this way. It is essentially asking you to really assess for yourself what the value of a service or product is to you. To me, it's a mature and respectful way of doing business.
Keep in mind that this is not giving the service for free...it is still a monetary exchange. The major difference is that you get to experience the service FIRST and then decide for yourself what the class is worth for you, plus you also know how much you can afford.
Things to consider when deciding what to pay in the Pay What You Can...there is often a lot of work prior to the class that most people don't think about. Organizing, flyers, preparing the class, rent, gas...etc.
